LEICESTER - Liverpool are getting away at the top of the Premier League standings. Jurgen Klopp's side are now 13 points clear of second-placed Leicester City, who they beat 4-0 on Boxing Day on Thursday 26 December evening.

The Reds are showing no signs of exhaustion after winning the Club World Cup in Qatar last weekend. In contrast, Leicester were overwhelmed by playing at the King Power Stadium.

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers had to see his side trailing by a Roberto Firmino header in the first half before Jurgen Klopp's men scored three goals in seven minutes in the second half.

Substitute James Milner made it 2-0 from the penalty spot before Trent Alexander-Arnold latched onto Firmino for his second. In closing, Alexander-Arnold scored his own goal to bring Liverpool closer to the long-awaited title.

This is the Reds' 17th win in 18 Premier League matches. Alexander-Arnold felt the victory was the best for Liverpool so far.

"We played really good football, especially after all the trips (at the Club World Cup) we had, the intense periods we had," Alexander-Arnold told Amazon Prime.

"You take everything into account, maybe this is our best performance this season.

"We controlled the game, they never had too many chances so we are happy with this clean sheet and getting four goals at King Power's place is something to be proud of."

Alexander-Arnold admits that a sizeable advantage at this stage is hard to believe.

"You don't really think you're going to be 13 points ahead," he added.

"We are happy to be in this position, obviously we will not take it for granted and we know that the season is not over yet. We are not even half a season."

However, the Reds right-back insists his team must keep going and try and push this advantage as much as possible.

"You see in the Premier League with the results every week that anything can happen," he concluded.

By comparison, Newcastle United, in 1995-96, were the only team in Premier League history to have a double-digit advantage at Christmas but failed to win the title.
