JAKARTA - Manchester United will not rush to make a decision about the team's next permanent manager.
United have appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager to replace permanent manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are strong candidates to coach the Red Devils, but director of football John Murtough as reported by the ESPN website on Friday said United were in no rush.
Rangnick himself has stated that he is ready to serve for another year if the right candidate is not available this summer.
"Out of respect for Ole, we don't approach other managers," Murtough said. "Our plan at the time was to appoint an experienced interim manager and Ralf was our first definite choice."
"He's someone I've admired for a long time and we're delighted he's here. With the signing of Ralf, we can now take the time to go through the full process for our next permanent manager."
"Recruiting a manager is one of the most important decisions a football club makes, so we wanted to do it with care and consideration," continued Murtough.
Solskjaer was sacked last November after a 4-1 loss against Watford. "We are all disappointed by Ole's departure but he deserves credit based on his record over the last three years, not from his last weeks.
He's reimagined the club culture and reshaped the squad so we're in a much stronger position today than when he started coaching in 2018."
