NBA Considers Quarantine Rotation: 6 Days Under COVID-19 Test Cycle Threshold

JAKARTA - Given that players who are ready to play have decreased during the COVID-19 wave, the NBA and the NBA Players Association are discussing reducing the quarantine period for players exposed to the corona virus.

The Athletic's website reported on Friday that the goal is to rotate players through quarantine within six days "based on the COVID-19 test cycle threshold.

Teams like the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets have been hit hard this month after a number of players had to self-isolate due to COVID-19. This month alone around 100 players have been affected by this virus.

Although the league was forced to postpone some games this month, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said this week that the NBA plans to continue playing amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

"We have of course looked at all the options. But to be honest, we are facing the problem of whether it is logical to suspend (the competition) now," Silver said as quoted by Antara. "This virus will not be eradicated. And we must learn to deal with it."

The NBA has a vaccination rate of 97 percent with more than 65 percent of players having been given booster injections, even requiring the media and non-players to be given boosters starting January 5.

The NBA has five games right at Christmas, but the league is said to be changing that schedule by prioritizing only three games.
