JAKARTA - Good news comes for supporters of the Indonesian national team who will be attending to watch the Garuda squad against Singapore in the semifinals of the AFF Cup 2020. AFF as the competition organizer gave permission for supporters, especially Indonesia, to fly the Red and White flag in the stands.

"It has come to the attention of the AFF, we allow Thai and Indonesian fans to carry national flags at their respective teams' matches. This does not conflict with WADA's notification of a ban on the raising of the national flag," reads the AFF's official letter.

"With this, the AFF has removed the restrictions that may have been allowed on Thai and Indonesian fans to fly their national flags in stadiums," the statement said.

Previously, the Singapore Football Federation (FAS) banned Indonesian fans from flying the Red and White flag in the stands in the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals.

The reason is that Indonesia is still shackled by sanctions from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). However, the ban was later lifted by the AFF organizing committee.

The Director of the Tournament, Jeysing Muthiah, emphasized that no rules were violated if fans raised the Red and White flag in the stands.

Because according to him, WADA sanctions are only applied to team activities, not supporters. Thus, Indonesia and Thailand, which are still under sanctions, can still and allow their supporters to fly the flags of their respective countries in the stands.

The first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup semifinal which brings together Indonesia and Singapore will take place at the National Stadium, Singapore tonight at 19.30 WIB.
