The club's official website on Tuesday announced the decision a day after Shenzhen lost to the third in their first four games of the season. They gave up 1-2 at the hands of Henan Jianye.

"After friendly negotiations, Shenzhen FC and Roberto Donadoni agreed that from now on he and his staff will not train this team anymore," said a statement on the official Shenzhen FC website quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 12.
After Donadoni's death, his assistant Zhang Xiaorui will become an interim coach accompanied by team captain Gao Lin who will play the role of both player and coach.
Several Chinese media have reported that Shenzhen is targeting former Chongqing Lifan coach Jordi Cruijff as a permanent replacement for Donadoni.
Donadoni has been hired by Shenzhen since July 2019 to replace Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, the coach who previously guided the team to promotion from the second division.
However, throughout his tenor Donadoni was only able to bring Shenzhen to win two of 14 matches.
