JAKARTA - The electric car race Formula E gave its first look on Monday local time on what it predicts to be the world's most efficient race car.
The third generation (Gen3) car, which will be raced from its ninth season in 2023, was introduced to manufacturers, teams, drivers and sponsors at an event in Valencia.
Teams are testing it in Spain ahead of season eight which starts in January next year.
"The Gen3 is our fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient race car," said Formula E chief executive Jamie Reigle.
"Together with the (autosports governing body) FIA, we have created the world's most efficient and most sustainable high-performance racing car."
Formula E says at least 40 percent of the energy used during the race will be generated from regenerative braking. Gen3 cars will have front and rear powertrains with double the current regenerative capabilities.
An electric motor will generate up to 350kw of power and make the car lighter and smaller than those currently being raced on city-based street circuits, with a maximum speed of 320 km per hour.
The car will also be carbon-free and run without rear hydraulic brakes.
Formula E plans to recycle damaged carbon fiber parts while the tires will contain 26 percent renewable materials.
