Not Yet In Discussion With FIFA, Kemenpora Does Not Know The Total Budget For The U-20 World Cup

JAKARTA - The U-20 World Cup will be held from 20 May to 12 June 2021 in six provinces in Indonesia. However, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has not been able to determine the total budget for organizing this event.

In his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, August 6, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, said that Kemenpora still had to coordinate with FIFA.

"Because we do not yet know which one will be part of FIFA, which one will be part of us," said the Menpora as quoted by Antara, Friday.

According to him, if you have discussed with FIFA, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will make a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as was done with PSSI regarding the financing of the 2021 U-20 World Cup national team preparation.

The Golkar Party politician emphasized that his party was still gathering information about the U-20 World Cup which was being held for the first time in Indonesia.

"We have never hosted a World Cup like this before," said Zainudin.

Regarding the 2021 U-20 World Cup, the government has just confirmed that the total budget for the preparation of the national team is IDR 50.6 billion.

The funds were given to PSSI as the person in charge of the national team's achievements at the U-20 World Cup through the signing of a memorandum of understanding on 27 July.

The national team that is projected to compete in the U-20 World Cup in 2021 is the U-19 national team which is handled by national team coach Shin Tae-yong.

The U-19 national team is currently gathering in Jakarta to undergo a training camp (TC), which series of activities will take place from 23 July-8 August 2020. There are 46 U-19 national team players participating in the TC.

Prior to the 201 U-20 World Cup, the Indonesian U-19 national team will compete in the 2020 U-19 Asian Cup which will take place in Uzbekistan on 14-31 October 2020.
