JAKARTA - 2019 SEA Games wushu gold medalist Edgar Xavier Marvelo received a special award from Menpora Zainudin Amali, which is used as a role model or role model for millennials in Indonesia.

The award was given during the opening of the Wushu Festival entitled Wufest Taolu Championship 2019 at Wisma Serba Guna Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, December 20. Present at the opening was the Chairman of PB Wushu Indonesia who was also the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

"To Ananda Edgar, we will make this a model that can be a role model for millennials, our young people. It is something to be proud of because of his extraordinary determination," said Menpora Zainudin Amali.

At the biennial championships in the Philippines, Edgar performed brilliantly by winning two gold medals from the daoshu and gunshu combination taolu numbers and the men's duel taolu duilian numbers with two of his teammates, Seraf Naro Siregar and Harris Horatius.

What was quite a concern, Edgar appeared and next won a gold medal in a state of mourning because his father passed away. Edgar continued to appear until the championship was over.

"When Edgar fought in the SEA Games, there was news of his father's grief. He continued to complete his duties to defend the Red and White until he succeeded in bringing gold. This is extraordinary and the example given by Edgar is an inspiration for all of us," added the Menpora.

For the award given by Menpora Zainudin Amali, Edgar said he was proud of the appreciation given. Awards will be used as motivation to continue to achieve future achievements.

"Something that I am very proud of is appreciating and I appreciate this. I do not put a burden on it, it becomes more of a motivation. I have to show myself as a role model so that young athletes can imitate and be motivated," said Edgar.

Regarding the implementation of the Wushu Festival entitled Wufest Taolu Championship 2019 which was initiated by Siwo PWI Pusat and PB Wushu Indonesia, Edgar admitted that he was very supportive because it could increase flying hours for young athletes.

"We really appreciate this activity. This is a big concern from the government, PB WI and Siwo PWI. With this Wushu Festival I am sure wushu will increase," he added.

Apart from being given a special award from the Menpora, Edgar and his friends who won medals at the 2019 SEA Games received an additional bonus from PB WI of IDR 100 million for individual gold winners and IDR 50 million for teams.
