JAKARTA - Six outstanding disabled athletes from Papua carried the XVI National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) flag to be flown.

The six athletes are Budiman Setiawan Youwe from swimming, Amon Asso from athletics, Hanna Hesty from table tennis, Agnes Monalisa Youwe from swimming, Laurent Sit from athletics and Zet Barangsano from athletics.

Launching Antara, the six outstanding athletes with disabilities carried flags that were stretched over their shoulders to the right side of the Peparnas opening stage, Friday.

On the right, the six flag-bearing athletes handed them over to a group of Flag-raising Troops to be hoisted on the mast.

After the Peparnas and NPC flags were flown, it was time for the Chair of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Senny Marbun to give his speech.

"We need to be grateful, in the era of President Joko Widodo, all people who are members of the NPC have the opportunity and get the same rights as non-disabled sportsmen," he said.

According to Senny, only President Joko Widodo has the courage to equate the dignity of persons with disabilities with those of non-disabled persons.

"I also thank the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, for providing the best facilities for people with disabilities and for fully supporting the implementation of Peparnas," he said.
