JAKARTA - Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani asked the Government to increase national preparedness following the reactivation of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait. According to Puan, the increased activity of Mount Anak Krakatau is a reminder that Indonesia as a country in the world's fire ring area must continue to strengthen the overall disaster mitigation system.

He also assessed that the Government needs to conduct periodic evaluations of the effectiveness of coordination between institutions so that each BMKG warning really leads to actions that can reduce risks in the field.

"Evaluation not only includes monitoring volcanic activity, but also the effectiveness of early warning systems, the readiness of evacuation routes, inter-agency coordination. the capacity of local governments, to the readiness of the community in responding to disaster information," he explained.

According to Puan, the government also needs to ensure that official information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), BMKG, National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and local governments is delivered quickly, consistently, and easily understood by the public. This is so that it does not cause panic or room for the spread of unverified information.

Puan added that the speed of information delivery is an important part of community protection, especially for residents living in coastal areas and shipping activity participants around the Sunda Strait. He also assessed that strengthening disaster mitigation must be a long-term investment.

JAKARTA - Iran on Tuesday said two supertankers were disabled after using a so-called illegal shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz at the urging of the US military.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy said in a statement that US forces had encouraged a number of ships to cross a route they called illegal in the strategic waters.

According to the IRGC, the two tankers turned off their navigation systems and ignored repeated warnings from the Hormuz Strait Maritime Security Control Center.

The action, according to the IRGC, endangers other shipping traffic in the region.

The IRGC said the two vessels then tried to cross the mine-laid path before being hit and unable to operate.

However, he did not explain what hit the ship nor directly claim responsibility for the incident.

The IRGC also warned that cooperation with the United States and the use of mined routes could trigger greater damage.

According to them, this action will also delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and deepen the global energy crisis.

JAKARTA - The steps taken by the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, to strengthen the protection of elephant populations through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2026 have received support from the Indonesian Elephant Conservation Forum (FKGI). JAKARTA - Entering the new school year 2026-2027, the Indonesian Teachers' Union Federation (FSGI) released worrying data regarding the portrait of the education world in the country. JAKARTA - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) officially issued Circular Letter (SE) Number 18 of 2026 concerning Restrictions on the Use of Gawai in Educational Units which will be implemented in the 2026/2027 academic year. Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti emphasized that restrictions on the use of gadgets do not mean that the government prohibits students from using digital devices. According to him, the use of gadgets is still allowed as long as it supports learning activities and is done wisely.

"The restrictions are not prohibitions, but how they use digital technology, especially gadgets, wisely, wisely, and for educational purposes," said Abdul Mu'ti, Monday, July 13.

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Pediatric Doctors Association (IDAI) officially submitted an Amicus Curiae Opinion regarding criminal case number 295/Pid.Sus/2025/PN Pgp on behalf of the defendant dr. "The victim needs psychological support, identity protection, legal assistance, health services, and guarantees so that they can continue their education without stigma. Don't let the victim become a victim for the second time because of social pressure," he said.

Nurul also highlighted the fact that most of the suspects are still children. According to him, this condition is a signal that education on respect for the body, healthy relationships, and understanding of consent or consent must be strengthened early on through the family, school, and community.

"Children need to be given the right education regarding respect for others, body boundaries, and the legal consequences of any act of sexual violence. This education is not to teach free sex, but rather to protect children from becoming victims or perpetrators," he explained.

In addition, he invited the public to stop the culture of blaming the victim or victim blaming which is still often appearing in cases of sexual violence.

JAKARTA - The pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Raya Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, was damaged after being hit by a crane-carrying truck on Tuesday, July 14, at around 00.30 WIB.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Marulitua Sijabat, said the accident started when the truck with the police number B 9077 UFU passed on Jalan Raya Kapten Tendean.

The load of the crane carried by the vehicle hit the bottom of the JPO, resulting in damage to the construction of the bridge. The incident had an impact on the traffic jam on Jalan Bangka.

SUKABUMI - The Cicatih Elpala expedition successfully completed the journey from the upstream of the Cimelati River to Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi, West Java. After participating as a Co-Exhibitor at INNOPROM 2026 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, BPDP continued a series of promotional activities through support for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI) with The Fat and Oil Union of Russia and the Association of Enterprises of Fat and Oil Industry of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) which took place at the Indonesian Republic Embassy (KBRI) Moscow.

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the non-active Regent of Sukoharjo Etik Suryani imitated her husband, Wardoyo Wijaya, when practicing extortion.

Wardoyo Wijaya is known to have served as the Regent of Sukoharjo for the 2010-2015 and 2016-2021 periods. Meanwhile, Etik, his wife, served as regent for the 2021-2025 period and was re-elected for the 2025-2030 period.

"If we look at the construction of the case, that what the ETS regent did is a duplication of what the previous regent, who is also the husband of ETS, had done," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters at the KPK Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday, July 14.

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Philanthropy Association (PFI) expressed full support for the proposal of the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN MUI) regarding the reform of religious fiscal policy. PFI encourages the government to set zakat as a direct tax reduction (tax credit), not just a tax deduction as is currently the case.

This strategic step is considered capable of strengthening the national Islamic philanthropy ecosystem. It is believed that greater fiscal incentives for taxpayers will increase compliance, increase the collection of religious social funds, and encourage more organized distribution of zakat.

In order to uphold the principle of justice, PFI also proposes that this tax credit policy be applied inclusively to other mandatory religious donations in Indonesia.

Difference between Tax Deduction vs Tax Credit Zakat

Currently, tax regulations in Indonesia only position zakat paid through official institutions as a reduction of taxable income. This rule refers to the Income Tax Law Article 9 paragraph (1) letter g jo PMK 114 of 2025.

This tax deduction scheme is considered less optimal in attracting taxpayers to channel their zakat through formal channels. Instead, the proposed tax credit scheme from DSN-MUI will make the amount of zakat paid directly deduct the tax bill owed 1-on-1. Shifting the Informal Zakat Culture to Official Institutions

JAKARTA - Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi revealed that so far the Palace has not received a proposal for the new name of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) from Attorney General ST Burhanuddin. In fact, the position is vacant after Febrie Adriansyah resigned.

Prasetyo explained that the mechanism for the definitive appointment of Jampidsus was the authority of President Prabowo Subianto through a presidential decree (Keppres). However, the presidential decree can only be issued after the president receives a formal proposal from the attorney general.

This case relates to a report of alleged intimidation involving three members of the TTU Regency DPRD, namely TL from the Golkar Party, NT from the PKB, and VK from the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP), as well as a veterinarian with the initials MMS who is the wife of NT. The incident was reported to have occurred at the Leona Kefamenanu Hospital emergency installation (IGD) on July 13, 2026.

JAKARTA - The European Union on Monday announced that European donors had provided about 1 billion US dollars to help with early recovery efforts in war-torn Gaza Strip, Palestine.

Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim said the acceleration of PSEL development was an important step to solve the waste problem sustainably in the Bogor Raya area.

"So this is more strategic. The land is relatively flat, there is only a little work of cut and fill so that it can be accelerated. The most important thing is the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Food so that the implementation of this PSEL project can immediately run," said Nani.

Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Bogor Ade Ruhandi said that cooperation between the Bogor City Government and the Bogor Regency Government in waste management has been established for a long time and is now strengthened through central government support.

According to him, the program initiated by President Prabowo Subianto is an opportunity to present a modern and sustainable waste management system for the Bogor Raya area.
