JAKARTA - The Jaecoo J5 is currently present in Indonesia only in a pure electric version or battery electric vehicle (BEV) but must be admitted to be quite popular in the market. In fact, in the global market this model is also available in hybrid options.

So what makes Jaecoo still hold back from bringing the variant to the country? Head of Marketing Jaecoo Indonesia M. Ilham Pratama, emphasized that the launch strategy of J5 in Indonesia follows the global direction which is prioritizing electric vehicles.

"Globally, we have several other models of the J5 (including hybrids), and for that (hybrid model) we will see later," he said when met in South Jakarta, last weekend.

In other words, the hybrid option is indeed available, but it has not become the main focus for the domestic market. In line with that, Business Unit Director Jaecoo Indonesia Jim Ma, said that the dynamics of the global automotive industry also influenced the decision.

"Chery Group is a very strong company. We have many product options that we can choose from. But I think right now everyone is having problems with gas prices. Not only in our country, but around the world. So I think we focus on BEV," said Jim Ma.

In the map of new energy vehicles (NEV), the choice of technology is actually quite diverse, ranging from BEV to plug-in hybrids (PHEV). However, Jaecoo considers that BEV is still a priority in the short term in Indonesia.

"As I mentioned in my presentation. So in the future, whatever BEV or PHEV, will be our target product in the Indonesian market. And if I mention BEV will be more important than the others," he said.

In the global market, the J5 hybrid variant known as J5 SHS has been launched first. This model carries a combination of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a total power of 165 kW or equivalent to 221 hp and 295 Nm of torque. Its acceleration performance from 0 to 100 km/h is claimed to be able to be achieved in 7.9 seconds.

In addition to performance, efficiency is also a major selling point with fuel consumption of around 5.3 liters per 100 km or equivalent to 18.8 km per liter. The dimensions of this car are compact with a length of 4,380 mm, width of 1,860 mm, height of 1,650 mm, and wheelbase of 2,620 mm which can accommodate five passengers.

In terms of features, the J5 SHS is equipped with modern technology such as ADAS which includes adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen, an 8-inch digital instrument panel, a 540-degree camera, six airbags, to seats with ventilation and wireless charging features.
