JAKARTA - BYD Motor Indonesia has again conveyed the latest developments in the construction of its vehicle assembly facility located in the Smartpolitan Subang industrial area, West Java. The factory project has bagged four important certificates as a prerequisite for starting mass production.
Head of Public and Government Relations PT BYD Motor Indonesia Luther Panjaitan, explained that the first certificate obtained was a standard certificate. Furthermore, the company has also obtained the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) needed for the issuance of Vehicle Identification Number (NIK).
"Second, is WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier), to be able to get the NIK of the vehicle or identification mark. Then, the IKD implementation certificate (Incompletely Knocked Down)," explained Luther at the BYD booth at the IIMS 2026 event, Tuesday, February 10.
According to Luther, the fourth certificate that was successfully obtained was an IKD specifically for electric vehicles or electric vehicles (EV). "This means that our facilities are very ready, very complete, to be able to produce in accordance with the specified TKDN," he said.
Currently, the focus of preparation of the BYD factory in Subang is on the process of integrating assembly equipment, which amounts to hundreds of units. This process is underway so that all production lines can operate optimally.
"This process is being carried out, and in the end we can roll off a superior product without defects," said Luther.
The BYD factory in Subang was chosen because of its strategic location, close to the Patimban Port and located in the automotive industry corridor connected to Karawang and Cikarang. With an area of about 100 hectares, this facility will become a production center for electric vehicles to meet the needs of the domestic market as well as exports to the Southeast Asian region.
As a form of seriousness in the Indonesian market, BYD has poured investments of around IDR 11.7 trillion for the construction of the factory. In the initial phase, the production capacity is targeted to reach 150,000 units per year and the target to start operating in the first quarter of this year, this factory is expected to be a strategic step for BYD to strengthen its existence in the national electric vehicle industry.
