JAKARTA - Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. officially opened a new chapter in the electrification (EV) segment by launching battery electric vehicles, e-Hijet Cargo and e-Atrai which will be marketed nationwide in Japan starting February 2.
Quoting from its official website, Tuesday, February 3, this launch is an important milestone for Daihatsu, which since 1957 through the Midget model has been known as a manufacturer of mini commercial vehicles that have become "working partners" of the community in various sectors, ranging from agriculture, fisheries, forestry, construction, to logistics and delivery services.
For decades, Daihatsu has consistently presented mini commercial vehicles that meet customer needs, in the form of trucks, vans, to special vehicles such as refrigerated trucks and panel vans. In fact, since the 1960s, Daihatsu has pioneered the development of electric vehicles, long before the electrification trend became the mainstream of the global automotive industry.
As the demand for a carbon-neutral society increases, the need for mini commercial electric vehicles to support short-distance logistics and various industrial activities is increasing. In response to this challenge, Daihatsu presents e-Hijet Cargo and e-Atrai with an e-SMART ELECTRIC BEV system that is specially developed and optimized for mini vehicles.
The placement of the main components was thoroughly revised, while the body and suspension structures were redesigned to accommodate large-capacity batteries without sacrificing interior space. As a result, the e-Hijet Cargo (four seats) offers the largest load space in its class, while maintaining the practicality of a typical mini commercial van.
The vehicle comes with a range of 257 km on a single charge based on WLTC mode testing, which is produced at Daihatsu Motor Kyushu Co., Ltd. Plant No.1 in Oita (Nakatsu).
As a pure electric vehicle, e-Hijet Cargo and e-Atrai also offer the fundamental advantages of BEVs, such as smooth driving characteristics, low noise levels, and better driving comfort. All of these aspects are designed to help reduce driver fatigue, especially in high-intensity daily use.
