JAKARTA - BYD continues to establish itself in the Southeast Asian automotive market, after establishing various factories including in Indonesia, BYD has started the construction of a battery factory in partnership with a Vietnamese car manufacturer.

CNevpost, Wednesday, January 28, BYD partnered with Vietnamese car manufacturer Kim Long Motor. The company announced that the facility is located within the Kim Long industrial park.

This plant will be developed in two phases. Phase one, which covers an area of 4.4 hectares, will have an annual capacity of 3 GWh.

This phase will mainly supply batteries for trucks, buses, vans, and other new energy commercial vehicles, with an export target to regional markets. Phase two will expand capacity to 6 GWh per year.

"Kim Long has developed and produced 34 electric buses that utilize BYD battery technology," said the Vietnamese car manufacturer.

The announcement did not mention when the battery factory would start operating. However, the move is quite good with BYD's seriousness in tapping the Southeast Asian market.
