JAKARTA Nissan emphasized that Nissan Patrol and Fleet's latest generation will not be present with a choice of diesel engines. This decision was taken after the company assessed major changes in global consumer preferences towards more modern machine technology.

The full head of SUV Product Specialist Nissan Antonio Lopez, explained that the market trend is now moving away from diesel engines. Although, there are some areas that still rely on diesel fuel.

"Now the trend is changing because most of the vehicles entering the market have turned into gasoline, electric, or hybrid cars," Antonio said as quoted by Drive, Thursday, November 13.

"I know that in the Australian market, for example, in some agricultural areas or places like this that are far from big cities, diesel has some advantages because of the fuel they use for their engines, they can use for their cars," he continued.

The seventh generation patrol, which was launched more than a year ago, was marketed with two choices of gasoline engines, twin-turbo V6 3.5 liters and V6 3.8 liters. Both are Nissan's main focus in developing the big model.

Lopez added that diesel engines still have fans in some areas thanks to torsion and efficiency. However, for the Patrol model, sales of diesel variants have been suspended since 2017, and Nissan sells according to customer needs.

"The reason is because this vehicle is adjusted to customer needs, and basically based on what they are willing to pay for. Such a trend no longer exists, so we believe that this gasoline car [Patrol] has provided sufficient performance for consumers," he explained.

Nissan also considered that the development of new diesel engines for only a few markets was not comparable to the necessary investments. Especially, when the company is reorganizing strategies and strengthening its focus on electrification.
