GM Ends BrightDrop VAN Travel Due To Slow Sales

JAKARTA - General Motors ended Van BrightDrop's journey at the CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll, Ontario, due to slow sales of forecasts.

Quoting from the Carscoops page, Thursday, October 23, the automaker started producing the van at the end of 2022, but the launch fell apart because BrightDrop brands themselves and had a small network of dealers.

Finally Van BrightDrop combined to Chevrolet last year, which pledged to expand sales significantly to surpass seven locations in the United States. Unfortunately the plan didn't go smoothly and unsold vehicles began to pile up.

In fact, GM recently sold only 59 vans by donating it to the American Red Cross, but it only smells water in the ocean and the company stopped production earlier this year.

Production was originally planned to resume in May, before being stopped again to give manufacturers time to present the 2026 model. Although production was resumed in May, BrightDrop has now stopped and there will be no 2026 model.

GM blamed the move on various factors including slow sales, changes in the regulatory environment, and the abolition of tax relief in the United States. They added that the cuts were part of a broader adjustment' made to the capacity of electric vehicles in North America.

Trigger Employee Anger

Employees who work at the factory are furious and claim that the decision is the result of dangerous and destabilizing automotive policies, although in this case GM has provided salary compensation for six months and other benefits.

Menyikapi hal di atas, Presiden GM Kanada Kristian Guinea, mengatakan bahwa keputusan uang diambil didorong oleh permintaan pasar dan sama sekali tidak mencerminkan komitmen dan kkill tenaga kerja di CAMI.

"This is still a period of uncertainty for our workforce at CAMI, and we are committed to working closely with our employees, the Unifor, as well as the Canadian and Ontario governments in evaluating the next steps for the future of CAMI," he said.
