Success In Global Market, BYD Atto 1 Coming Soon To Australia

JAKARTA - BYD Seagull (or other names in a number of markets such as Atto 1, Dolphin Mini, or Dolphin Surf) is indeed BYD's best-selling electric car (EV) in a number of countries, especially in emerging markets and even starting to penetrate Europe and New Zealand.

In China itself, Seagull is often the best-selling car overall (even beating gasoline cars like the Tesla Model Y or Nissan Sylphy), with sales reaching more than 1 million units globally in just two years since its launch in 2023.

Now, Australia's automotive market will also have this cheap electric car because BYD will add to its electric car lineup.

Based on a report from Drive, Monday, October 6, BYD will bring Atto 1 which is already present in various countries including Indonesia and its presence will be one of the cheapest BEV models in the country.

BYD Australia has yet to confirm the exact price, COO BYD Stephen Collins promises affordable price points that could set it on par with gasoline-powered competitors such as Mazda 2 Suzuki Swift to Toyota Yaris.

"Atto 1 will be Australia's most affordable EV with several margins, opening the door for more Australians to be behind the wheel of their own new energy vehicle," Collins said.

Australian specifications have not been confirmed, but in the UK, Atto 2 is available with 30kWh or 43.2kWh batteries, with driving distance ratings based on WLTP standards of 220 km and 322 km, respectively.

In terms of dimensions, Atto 1 has a length of 3,990 mm, a width of 1,715 mm, a height of 1,590 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,500 mm, placing it about the same size as Yaris.

In terms of appearance, this car comes with the concept of 'Energy in Motion' of this car depicting the spirit of innovation that continues to move and develop without stopping. This spirit reflects sustainable energy and dynamic creativity, as well as a motivation for BYD to continue to create better and more sustainable mobility solutions in the future.

BYD Atto 1 comes with a very modern design, sharp body lines and futuristic LED headlights. The compact design makes it ideal for use in urban areas.

In addition to Atto 1, Sealion 5, which will launch with Sealion 8 in early 2026, has also been locked for the Australian market.
