GM And Hyundai Establish Cooperation In Creating 5 New Models With High Quality Standards

JAKARTA - Some time ago, General Motors (GM) and Hyundai announced that they would jointly develop the first five vehicles as part of a strategic collaboration, marking important steps in their partnership.

The two will take advantage of their combined scale and expertise to launch new models for the North and South American markets, focusing on providing value and accelerating innovation.

According to GM, this collaboration will produce four new vehicles specifically for the Central and South American markets, including a compact SUV, a car, and two pickup trucks, one compact and one medium size.

These models are designed with a flexible architecture, which allows them to be equipped with an internal or hybrid combustion propulsion system to meet regional needs. In addition, the partnership will generate a new electric commercial van for the North American market.

In the agreement, GM will lead the development of a platform for medium-sized pickup trucks, while Hyundai will spearhead the development of compact vehicle platforms and electric commercial vans.

The two companies will share the same platform to maximize efficiency, but will design unique interiors and exteriors to defend their respective brand identities.

"Our combined scale in North and South America helps us provide more things customers want more efficiently, vehicles that are designed beautifully, with high quality, and focus on safety, as well as technology they value," said Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO

The two companies project annual sales for these jointly developed vehicles will surpass 800,000 units once production reaches full capacity.

Edgepan Amin, SVP GM as well as the head of global supply and supply chains, agrees with this, he revealed that these vehicles are targeted for the largest market segment.

"By partnering, GM and Hyundai will present more options for our customers more quickly, and at a lower cost," said Zeppan.
