JAKARTA - Kia continues to innovate by continuing to present various innovative new car models, including presenting an SUV based on Tasman pickup.

Citing from the Carscoops page, Wednesday, August 7, an executive from Kia has confirmed that the Tasman-based SUV variant is being considered in detail, and the offroad model is likely to follow.

Vice President of the Center for Engineering, Sasis Design, Big Vehicle Winning Kia, as well as the main engineer behind Tasman, Dong Hoon Kang, also revealed this when speaking to Drive, an Australian media.

He said that Kia is starting to consider a Ladder Frame SUV that can compete with some existing models, such as Ford Everest, Land Cruiser to Isuzu MU-X.

Although internal development is likely to be underway, the SUV has yet to receive official approval from Kia's central management. Head of product planning for Kia Australia, Roland Rivero, explained that the future of the project relies on broader global interests.

"I think it should be globally feasible. So, it's not just Australia that can push it strongly to materialize and get the green light. Kia needs the Middle East, South Africa and America," he said.

If this SUV continues, it is likely to come in the coming years. Kang noted that Tasman's development began around 2019 and took a significant amount of time, but he said the SUV could take a faster path because the foundation was already there.

"We started developing Tasman maybe since 2019 it did take a long time. But maybe I think this SUV will be a little shorter because we already have the foundation," said Kang.

In addition to confirming that Kia is actively considering a Tasman-based SUV, Dong Hoon Kang also revealed that the company is exploring other tough models.

"Not only for Tasman, we also consider lamber-frame vehicles, pickup cars, and SUVs. We need to consider all that," he explained.

His comments show that Kia aims to strengthen its presence on the offroad market, which has the potential to expand its appeal to new segments.
