Ahead Of The End Of Electric Car Incentives In The US, Honda Prologue And Hyundai Ioniq 5 Sales Set A Record

JAKARTA The incentives for purchasing electric vehicles in the United States will expire on September 30, 2025. These loans include providing 7,500 US dollars in incentives for new and 4,000 vehicles for used vehicles. This loan will expire due to a budget reconciliation bill from the Trump administration, known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act".

Towards the end of incentives, the electric vehicle market (EV) in the United States turned out to be quite hot in July prompting consumers to act quickly, with Honda Prologue and Hyundai Ioniq 5 setting their best monthly sales record.

Autoblogging reported on Monday, August 4, Hyundai Ioniq 5 showed outstanding performance with 5,818 units sold in July. This figure jumped 71 percent compared to the same month last year, helping Hyundai achieve its best July sales record in the US with a total of 79,543 units. About a third of the sales came from electric vehicles, and Ioniq 5 became a key player, especially with its newest XRT variant.

Ioniq 5, produced in Georgia, remains one of the best-selling EVs in the country. Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its bold and futuristic-retro designs became a separate attraction. The price starts at $42,600, making it an attractive choice in the segment.

However, the Honda Prologue even made more impressive sales. With 6,318 units sold in July, Prologue not only beat Ioniq 5, but also surpassed the Ford Mustang Mach-E which sold 5,308 units, although Ford offers new rental incentives. Honda's total electric vehicle sales hit 38,050 units for the month, setting a new July record for the brand.

Interestingly, the Prologue built on the Ultium GM platform costs from $47,400, slightly higher than Hyundai and Ford, but Honda recently sweetened the deal by granting drivers access to the Tesla Supercharger network, which includes more than 23,500 stations across the US.

Meanwhile, for total sales to date in 2025, the Mach-E Mustang is still slightly ahead with a total of 27,093 units sold. Ioniq 5 is at 24,910 units, followed by Prologue with 22,635 units. With the remaining two months before the tax cuts disappeared, this sales competition is still far from over.
