Mazda Gives A Strong Signal Of RX-7 Reborn With The Iconic SP Base

JAKARTA - Mazda wants to revive his legendary model, namely RX-7 by taking a basis from the Iconic SP Concept which was introduced at the end of 2023.

Despite having a design language resembling the MX-5, the latest RX-7 model is larger than the roadster.

Mazda's Chief Technical Officer, Ryuichi Umeshita said it did not rule out the possibility that the production version of the Iconic SP would be the successor to RX-7.

"You can expect the Iconic SP to be the successor to RX-7," Umeshita said as quoted by MotorTrend, Wednesday, June 25.

Unfortunately, he did not want to reveal further information, both model naming and in terms of performance. However, this Japanese man confirmed that his name was not the successor to the existing model or from the past.

In the form of the concept, the Iconic SP displays an EV system and an expansion of the reach of a dual rotor rotor rotor. Overall, it generates 370 HP which is channeled through the rear wheels.

Mazda Iconic SP is also a step for the company to present an electrification model. The company says the car is equipped with two unique Mazda rotors that offer unique capabilities.

By design, the Iconic SP emphasizes a minimalist design that makes the model look elegant. Reportedly this car was also made taking into account sustainability using fiber and dyes derived from plants.
