JAKARTA - Volvo is a number of manufacturers who wish to assemble their vehicles in the United States (US) to avoid tariffs set by President Donald Trump.

This automotive manufacturer from Sweden actually has its assembly lines in Uncle Sam's country, precisely in the South Carolina region, USA but only specifically assembles EX90 and Polestar 3.

In order to increase its sales volume in the market, Volvo plans to produce other models in the US, including Mill-hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) driven vehicles.

"Cars assembled must be mild-hybrid or PHEV, in order to increase sales volume," said Volvo Cars CEO Hakan Samuelsson as quoted by InsideEVs, Friday, May 2.

Later a number of upcoming models will be assembled in Ridgeville, USA. However, it has not been explained in detail what vehicles are produced at the factory.

There are possible other models produced in the US market are XC60 and XC90, considering both provide millid-hybrid and PHEV options.

The reason is because both are based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. What's more, Ridgeville factory has produced S60 models that have similar architectures such as XC60 and XC90.

Although it will switch to a pure EV assembly facility, Ridgeville's plant still has the capability and equipment to assemble the SPA platform for the two models in the future.

These two models are the flagship vehicle lines offered in the country. In the first three months, XC60 has sold 12,706 units and XC90 to 9,369 units.
