JAKARTA - Not long ago, the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Prabowo Subianto announced plans to relax the level of domestic components (TKDN) which has become the talk of many parties in recent times.

Of course this will have an impact on a number of national industries, one of which is the automotive sector where many companies have invested to optimize the TKDN.

The easing of this policy will also have an impact on domestic production of electric vehicles (EVs). How did the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) respond to this?

Periclindo Chairman Moeldoko said that his party needed to study the regulation further and could not comment much on this matter. However, he hopes that policies regarding TKDN need to be considered.

"We don't know the whole thing, so we can't comment much more. But we hope that the spirit of TKDN is strong, we need to think about it as well as possible. So, those who have the spirit of TKDN should not be slack again and until there are disappointed parties," said Moeldoko when met after a press conference ahead of the 2025 PEVS event in Kemayoran, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 22.

Even so, Moeldoko also emphasized that the easing of TKDN also needs to be carefully considered.

He gave an example, there is a geothermal company that is ready to operate but encounters obstacles due to demands from TKDN so that the project is stagnant

"However, flexible TKDN also needs to be considered. For example, I once reported to the President that I received a report from the president director of a geothermal company who said it was ready to go but was hampered by TKDN. Because it was full of high technology and TKDN demands, the project was stagnant," he explained.

He concluded that if the level of components such as technology has not been fulfilled, then the flexibility of TKDN needs to be discussed further.

"So the conclusion is, as long as we don't have technology that can accommodate it, flexibility needs to be considered," concluded Moeldoko.
