Toyota is ready to start its newest battery manufacturing facility located in North Carolina, United States (US) after disbursing an investment of nearly US$14 billion or equivalent to Rp228.3 trillion.

This is the first internal battery factory from Toyota to operate outside Japan. The batteries assembled at the plant will be embedded into Toyota's EV and Lexus will be delivered in April.

Reporting from InsideEVs, Thursday, February 6, the facility has 14 assembly lines with 10 of them for the manufacture of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) modules. Meanwhile, the other four lanes are for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) battery.

In 2030, Toyota estimates total production will increase to 30 gigawatt-hours per year or enough to produce batteries for more than 400,000 BEV units with a capacity of 70 kWh.

Currently, the Japanese manufacturer only has one electric car in its portfolio, bZ4X. However, Toyota will expand its BEV lineup in the near future by launching the latest 5-7 electric vehicles in the US in the next two years.

One of the newest electric vehicles that will be presented by manufacturers in Uncle Sam's country is the three-line-style SUV which will be assembled at the functor factory, Kentucky, USA.

Unfortunately, information about the SUV is still a mystery. However, Toyota is rumored to be launching it in 2026 or postponed from the previous debuting this year.

Amid the sluggish demand for pure electric vehicles, the manufacturer led by Akio Toyoda has sold the BEV slightly below 140,000 EVs last year globally with 18,570 units of them from the US market.
