JAKARTA – The global automotive industry continues to grow with various environmentally friendly innovations that are changing the face of the future of transportation. Technologies such as hybrid, ethanol, synthetic fuels, biofuels, and hydrogen are now in the spotlight.
Although hydrogen-based vehicles currently still have a small market share, their potential to become an alternative energy solution in the future cannot be ignored. With its environmentally friendly advantages and high efficiency, hydrogen is predicted to be ready to enliven the global automotive market competition in the next few years.
The Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang, said that the government is preparing a hydrogen ecosystem for the country.
"The most important thing is that the infrastructure is prepared," said Agus when met by reporters at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Friday, November 22.
On the occasion after the opening of Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) 2024, Agus also conveyed his impressions of this car which was displayed at the exhibition.
"Toyota has presented the Mirai which is 100 percent hydrogen, that's why I came here," added Agus.
He hopes that in the future the car will have high local content and can be marketed immediately to domestic consumers.
"Later we will ask Toyota to prepare the local content, but it will still be a long time. We only need to prepare the hydrogen charging infrastructure," explained Agus.
Currently, Toyota is the market leader in the hydrogen vehicle segment by producing the Mirai globally. The sedan was launched in 2014 and has entered its second generation.
This long-wheelbase car has three tanks to store hydrogen which is also driven by 1.24 kWh lithium-ion and can produce 182 hp with the help of rear-wheel drive.
