JAKARTA Automotive brands from China are increasingly aggressive in enlivening the Indonesian market, not only by selling imported cars, but also planning the construction of domestic assembly plants.

One of those ready to take this step is Aion, which is planning to assemble its electric car locally in Cikampek, West Java, starting next year (2025). This was confirmed directly by Aion CEO Andry Ciu.

"The career will start early next year. Hopefully, this local assembly process can be accelerated," said Andry when met in Bandung, recently.

Not only focusing on car assembly, Aion also has big plans to produce electric car batteries in Indonesia. Several manufacturers, such as Wuling, have already taken similar steps, with battery production scheduled for the end of 2024.

"We have our own battery factory with technology that is different from other brands. However, regarding the planned production of batteries in Indonesia, we'll see later, it still takes time," added Andry.

Aion itself is committed to building an assembly plant with an initial capacity of 30,000 units per year, which can still be improved as needed. In addition to the local market, production in this factory is also planned to meet export demand.

"With the current capacity, it is more than enough to meet Indonesia's market demand, and there is a possibility for export as well," explained Andry.

Currently, Aion has introduced three flagship models in Indonesia, namely Aion Y Plus, which have been tested on the Jakarta-Bandung-Jakarta route, as well as ES and Hypetech HT. This step shows Aion's seriousness in expanding its presence in the electric vehicle segment in Indonesia.
