Jeep Calls Falls To HEV Market In The Future

JAKARTA - United States (US) automotive brand Jeep said it would explore the possibility of creating a traditional self-charging hybrid that is developed independently in the future.

The manufacturer wants to vary its electrification vehicles both in the United States (US) and abroad by selling plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars to Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in Uncle Sam's country. Meanwhile, this well-known brand also sells Renegade and Compass with a mild-hybrid system.

With the increasing competition for conventional hybrid systems globally, Jeep wants to offer this driver to customers who don't want pure battery-based electric vehicles (BEVs).

Vice President Jeep Global Product Planning Matt Nyquist, said his party was studying various things about the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system so that it could provide the right price for buyers.

"It's a natural extrapolation to see the HEV, there are lots of HEVs in various segments. Jeep is not yet willing to reveal when its newest HEV model will go on sale. However, it is certain that they will expand it globally where this segment is developing.

Jeep's demand for environmentally friendly vehicles proved positive results. In the US market, the brand managed to sell 113,113 units of PHEV cars in 2023 with 67,429 units including Wrangler and 45,684 units from Grand Cherokee.

Stellantis estimates the brand could sell 160,000 to 170,000 PHEV units in the US this year, an increase of between 40-50 percent from last year.

In addition, the company is also studying various technologies that can be provided for other environmentally friendly vehicles such as the Range-Extender Electric Vehicle or commonly called REEV or EREV. This system allows vehicles to run on pure electric power. But if the battery power runs out, the ICE engine will replace the power source which is then channeled to electric and battery drivers.
