Approved By Toyota, Tundra Startspaling In Australia In November

JAKARTA - Recently, Toyota Australia confirmed that it would soon launch the Tundra model in Australia after successfully evaluating, testing, and validating.

This good news emerged after the manufacturer tested 300 vehicles that were rented out to selected customers, so Toyota Australia was given the green light for the full-scale local launch of the large pickup.

"I am pleased to announce that Tundra has officially entered the Australian market," said Australian Toyota Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley, quoted from Drive, Friday, September 20.

This sturdy pickup will be sold locally in November with Limited type before launching a more premium variant in early 2025.

"Our parent company has given Toyota Australia official approval to launch Tundra to retail customers in Australia," added Hanley.

Previously, Toyota Australia started a 'Tudra Insider Program' involving 300 vehicles delivered from late November 2023 with all units up to the customer's hands in April 2024.

Of the 300 vehicles involved in the trial, 280 of them were leased to customers and 20 other units for the company's internal use.

Customers involved have been directly selected by Toyota Australia and dealers. They choose customers who also have experience in drawing/towing vehicles.

For the Australian market, the Tundra production of the United States (US) will be converted from left-to-right steering wheel in Melbourne by former engineering firmwaat Special Vehicles (HSV) Walkinshaw Automotive Group.

The company has previously implemented a similar process in the Ram Trucks and Chevrolet Silverado models sold in fugrant countries.

Toyota Tundra is known as a tough pickup capable of pulling a heavy load and passing tough obstacles. It is reported that the units present in Australia will carry a hybrid system.

This means that the pickup will be powered by a 3.5 liter 6-cylinder twin-turbo gasoline engine which gives up 290 kW of power and 650 Nm of torque with 36 kW of electric motor and 250 Nm of torque in collaboration with nickel metal hydride batteries.

Thus, the total power generated by Tundra reaches 326 kW and torques up to 790 Nm. This is assisted by an all-wheel drive system through automatic transmission of ten accelerations.
