Daihatsu Counterfeits 88,000 Collision Test Data, Toyota Apologizes

JAKARTA - Daihatsu recently admitted that it had falsified about 88,000 side-braking test data on several models made for its parent company, Toyota Motor Corp.

Quoted from Daihatsu's official website, Friday, April 28, 2023, they confirmed that in the hit test there was an inappropriate part, especially on the front door.

The manufacturer also believes there was a procedural violation in testing side-collision, so they continue to investigate the matter.

His party will also continue to consult on this issue with related parties and product deliveries will also be suspended in countries where approvals have been given after discussions with Toyota.

"In addition, when reporting and consulting with inspection and certification authorities, we have confirmed and reported that it is in accordance with laws and regulations in internal re-testing using appropriate parts," Daihatsu wrote in his official statement.

"We will try to continue sending vehicles whose deliveries are suspended, while receiving guidance from inspection and certification authorities. Currently, customers who use this model do not need to take any action to continue use," he added.

Because of this problem, Toyota Chairman, Akio Toyoda, apologized for the negligence that occurred. According to him, this case greatly influenced Toyota because it involved several models.

Daihatsu confirmed there were at least more than 88,000 vehicles affected and upon learning of the matter, they immediately reported it to the inspection and certification authority and stopped shipping.

The company stated that the models affected in this case were Thai-made Toyota Yaris Ativs last August, and Perodua Axias was produced in Malaysia starting February.

To re-confidence the results of the side crash test, the Company said it would re-examine the four models in front of the inspection and certification authorities.
