With The Potential Of Fires, Kia And Hyundai Do A Mass Recall

JAKARTA - Recently there was a recall by Hyundai and KIA companies. Vehicle models affected by the recall include Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Cruz, as well as KIA Carnival.

According to data from the United States Highway Safety Agency (NHTSA) as reported by Motor1, March 23, the recall was carried out on 571,467 vehicles. Coupled with the previous withdrawal for Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride, the total rose to 852,914 potential models at risk of fire.

Santa Cruz, a model of Hyundai's mainstay pickup car, was hit by a recall for production from 2022 to 2023. Meanwhile, KIA Carnival has 3,555 models from 2022 and 2023.

Withdrawals were made again because there was a problem with the TOW hitch wiring noise purchased from the Hyundai or official workshop. Circuit boards in the module are detected as prone to water, which has the potential to cause short circuits and fires.

Wire Harness is one of the important components of vehicles, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, which functions to flow electric currents and signals on motorbikes. In this case, Hyundai's Harness has constant power, and even if the vehicle is turned off, the risk of short circuits will always exist. If this happens, it can cause a fire.

Hyundai noted there were six incidents that could be linked to this issue, and only one fire broke out in a Hyundai vehicle.

Similar to Hyundai, KIA Carnival also has problems with theharness trailer. However, there have been no reports of incidents caused by this.

Hyundai will deal with this problem by installing a new cable that prevents water from entering the module, along with a 15A switch. The notification will be made by Hyundai on May 16. They advise users to park their vehicles outside or away from the building until repairs are made.
