JAKARTA - Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has denied suggestions he will step down after his side's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in the English Premier League match on Sunday.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick in that clash at Old Trafford as Manchester United slumped to seventh in the league standings extending their winless run in the league to four games.

Solskjaer's position came under closer scrutiny after Sunday's defeat, but the Norwegian has vowed to stay and fight for his job.

"I believe in myself," Solskjaer told reporters.

"I believe that I am getting closer to what I want with the club. I think what we have done, what I have seen, the progress."

"Of course, recent results haven't been good enough, I have to say and that's… hands up. And that might bring doubts in anyone's mind. But I have to stay strong and I believe in what we've done."

Solskjaer, who was appointed United's permanent manager in March 2019, is yet to win a trophy with the club.

Manchester United are eight points behind league leaders Chelsea, and will travel to Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday's league game, before traveling to Italy three days later to face Atalanta in the Champions League group stage.

"Today low, confidence low," added Solskjaer.

"But, you know, next week is away to Tottenham. It's a Champions League game, Atalanta, the next team to visit us is Manchester City.

"We have to look forward. We have to sort out the frame of mind and make sure we go into the next training session in the next game with the right frame of mind," said Solskjaer.
