JAKARTA - The Indonesian boxing team closed the fight at the 2026 Asian Boxing U-19 & U-23 Championships which took place in Jakarta with a record of getting one gold medal, one silver medal, and five bronze medals.
The tournament, which took place at the Hall Basket Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, officially ended on Thursday, July 16, 2026. In addition to being successful as hosts, Indonesia also achieved the best results in the last decades at the Asian Championship level.
Secretary General of the Indonesian Boxing Association (PP Perbati) Hengky Silatang said this success was the fruit of cooperation from all parties, from federations, the Government, sports partners, to community support.
"It has been almost 34 years since we have dreamed of having another international boxing championship held in Indonesia and the most proud thing is not only the successful organization, but Indonesian athletes are also able to show extraordinary results," he said in an official statement.
The only gold medal for Indonesia was contributed by Anggi Intania Chalik after dominating the final match for the U-19 women's light flyweight (45-48 kg). This is the first time Indonesia has won a gold medal for the women's event at the U-19 Asian Championships.
Raihan one gold, one silver, and five bronze even surpassed the target previously set by PP Perbati. With the relatively short preparation time for athletes, the results are considered a big capital to build achievements to a higher level.
"We have been waiting for this achievement for 10 years. This proves that with the right guidance and support from all parties, Indonesia is able to compete again at the Asian level," said Hengky.
The 2026 Asian Boxing Championships will last for 14 days. This championship brings together hundreds of the best Asian boxers in almost 300 competitive matches.
A total of 328 athletes from 23 countries competed in the event which competed for 40 numbers. This record is also an important momentum for Indonesia to return as an organizer of international boxing championships after decades.
Indonesia's success as host received high appreciation from Asian Boxing. Secretary General of Asian Boxing, Ali Mousa Mahmoud, said that the event in Jakarta was one of the best championships he had ever seen.
"It's only been about a year since the Indonesian boxing federation was re-established, now Indonesia has become one of the top five Asian powers. In fact, Asia is a continent with the strongest boxing competition in the world. This is an achievement that should be appreciated," said Ali.
