JAKARTA - Veda Ega Pratama will try to get the best result in the 2026 German Moto3 race this weekend so that he can dedicate it to teammate Zen Mitani who is absent due to injury.
The racer from Gunungkidul said that without Zen's presence on the track, he was very motivated in the race which will take place at the Sachsenring Circuit on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
"I want to dedicate this weekend to Zen. I hope he gets a good recovery and can return to the track soon," the 17-year-old rider said in a statement from the Honda Team Asia to the media.
Zen, who is from Japan, had to go to the operating table this week due to the serious accident he suffered in the Dutch Grand Prix at the Assen Circuit at the end of last month. He is now in the recovery phase so he can't race.
Vega admitted that he was very enthusiastic about welcoming the 2026 German Moto3 race even though he had to fight alone on the 3.67 kilometer cross.
"I'm happy to be back racing after Assen. Of course the result there was very disappointing, but I also picked up a lot of confidence from the performance we showed over the weekend," he said.
The Sachsenring circuit, located near Chemnitz, Germany, is one of the most challenging tracks because it is very technical and dominated by ten left turns. In addition, the elevation changes (uphill and downhill) are also very dramatic.
Veda said that he was no stranger to the character of the track because he had experience trying out the Sachsenring asphalt in previous seasons before moving up to the Moto3 class.
"Sachsenring is a circuit that I enjoy. The track is very technical and different from many other tracks so this will be another good challenge," said Veda.
Veda actually has a good chance of getting on the podium at the race in the Netherlands. He had been fighting with the group of riders in front, but an accident made the desire to get points immediately shaken.
Currently, Veda sits in seventh place in the standings with 82 points. The 17-year-old racer is 129 points behind Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) in the top position.
