JAKARTA - Former heavyweight world champion challenger, Dillian Whyte, considers Arslanbek Makhmudov a very dangerous opponent for Tyson Fury in a comeback fight early next month.
Fury is set to end his 16-month absence from the boxing ring when he returns to face Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England, on April 11, 2026.
Whyte said he initially thought it was an easy fight for Fury, but then changed his mind after watching Makhmudov's duels again.
"He (Arslanbek Makhmudov) is a tough fighter, he just had some good wins, and he has a strong punch," Whyte told Sky Sport.
Whyte admitted that Fury is famous as one of the very tall heavyweight fighters and has a long reach. However, these two advantages do not mean that he can dominate Makhmudov.
He said that most fans would put Fury in a superior position for the fight, but it looks like this duel will not go as easily as many people imagined.
"Fury has also been defeated several times by fighters who should not have been able to beat him and Makhmudov has a much harder punch. So, let's see (what their fight will be like)," he said.
Fury has an undefeated record when he decided to step into the ring to meet Oleksandr Usyk in May 2024 for the undisputed heavyweight world title. He also lost through a split decision in that match.
They then met again in December of the same year, but had not snatched the undisputed world title. The fighter nicknamed the Gypsy King lost again, this time by a unanimous decision.
Fury then decided to retire at the beginning of the following year and insisted he would not return to the boxing world. However, earlier this year he came down from the mountain to pursue a trilogy against Usyk that could possibly happen.
