JAKARTA - The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) is committed to strengthening the development of national sports and improving Indonesia's achievements on the international stage when celebrating its 74th anniversary.

President of the Indonesian NOC, Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that the momentum of this anniversary was a reflection for the organization he led to conduct an evaluation while strengthening collaboration with all national sports stakeholders.

"The Indonesian Olympic Committee will continue to introspect. We will (continue) to strive to give the best for Indonesian sports."

"Of course, without the support of friends (media) at the same time, without the support of the Indonesian people, we would definitely not be able to reach Indonesia standing on the highest stage in the world," said Okto, the nickname of King Sapta Oktohari.

NOC Indonesia carries the big theme "Indonesia Connected Globally, Athletes Protected Completly, United in Peace" in this year's anniversary celebration.

Protection of athletes in particular is a major concern after the recent cases of sexual harassment in the sports of rock climbing and kickboxing.

Okto said that in addition to continuing to try to position sports as a means to create peace and bring Indonesia to the global stage, they are also committed to taking action on serious cases such as harassment because athletes are the main focus or the heart of the entire sports ecosystem.

"This sexual harassment is a disgrace that must be our responsibility. Finally we see athletes bravely speaking out because there should be no more violence, let alone sexual harassment of athletes," he said.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, assessed the long journey of the Indonesian NOC for 74 years full of various dynamics, both successes and challenges, which of course are important capital to build a more solid national sport.

"Our sport must really be a national ambassador and reflect our disability. It can only work if we are all compact, including us at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, introspection, correcting ourselves, no more playing with the budget," he said.

Erick also ensured that the Government's attention was not only directed at the Olympic sports, but also other sports that took part in the Asian Games and SEA Games while still implementing a clear target system.

"Indeed, the target must occur because of the budget efficiency that occurs today, it must really have a benchmark with all the limitations from us," he said.

Indonesian sports face one big agenda in this year's calendar, namely the Asian Games which will take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan. The largest multi-branch sports festival in Asia is scheduled to be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
