JAKARTA - Supporters of the Swedish league (Superttan) second division club, Ostersunds, have raised funds for transfer fees aimed at bringing the club's heroes back to Sweden.
Curtis Edwards, who played for Ostersunds under Manager Graham Potter, could return to Sweden after a unique method of paying his transfer.
Ostersunds asked its supporters to collect 200,000 Swedish kronor (around Rp375.3 million) to fund the transfer and the money has been collected.
The club confirmed that anyone who donated a certain amount would also get a Curtis Edwards scarf as a bonus.
"We can see that in just a few days, you fans have joined and contributed in an unforgettable way."
"It should be noted that 34 people have also received Curtis Edwards scarves," the club's statement read.
Shortly after Ostersunds confirmed that funds had been raised, Edwards announced his departure from Gateshead. He left the National League club (fifth division of the English league) by mutual agreement after 23 appearances and three assists this season.
Midfielder Curtis Edwards is a Middlesbrough academy graduate who has taken an interesting path by spending nine years playing in Sweden and Norway.
The path led to Potter, who is renowned as a manager with an impressive track record with Ostersunds.
Curtis Edwards played for Ostersunds in 2016-2019. In particular, he played twice against Arsenal in 2018, including in the famous victory at the Emirates Stadium.
The small Swedish team took a two-goal lead in the second leg of the Europa League match, after Arsenal won 3-0 in the first leg. Arsenal finally managed to maintain the lead to advance to the next round.
Curtis Edwards then played for Djurgarden in Sweden and Stabaek in Norway. He returned to English football with Woking in the National League, then Notts County in League Two (fourth division).
His latest stint, with Gateshead, has now come to an early end. While there has been no confirmation of what will happen next, all signs point back to Ostersunds.
