Indonesia Outdoor Hockey National Team Prepares Itself to Qualify for the 2026 Asian Games

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Hockey Federation (PP FHI) has two important agendas in this year's calendar, one of which is preparing the Indonesian Outdoor Hockey National Team (National Team) to appear at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The coach of the Indonesian National Hockey Team, Dharma Raj, said that the competition to get a ticket to the four-year event was not easy because the men's team had to rank sixth and the women's team fourth.

"We will try our best to repeat the success of four years ago, so we have started the national training center since February 2026," he said in a statement received.

The Indonesian women's and men's teams are currently preparing to undergo qualification to get a ticket to Japan. The men's squad is scheduled to take part in the qualification round in Oman from March 25 to April 5, 2026, while the women's squad will appear in the qualification round in Jakarta on April 20-30, 2026.

Before appearing in the qualifying round, the Indonesian men's team will undergo training and a series of trials in India, while the women's team will undergo training and a series of trials in China.

Previously, at the 2022 Asian Games which took place in Hangzhou, the Indonesian men's team qualified from the qualifying round by placing third. Meanwhile, the women's team qualified from the qualifying round by placing fifth.

Apart from the above-mentioned big agenda, the PP FHI has also prepared regeneration by selecting potential young players through the FHI 2026 Hockey 5s Junior U-18 National Championship (Kejurnas) which will take place on February 5-7, 2026.

In the event, which was attended by eight women's teams and 12 men's teams, as many as 18 young men's players managed to score. They will be prepared to perform at the U-18 Asia Cup which will take place in Kakamigahara, Japan, from May 29 to June 6, 2026.

"This event is indeed an event to select young players for future regeneration. Players who are netted will be called to undergo national training," said Dhaarma.

Previously at the end of last year, the Indonesian Men's Indoor Hockey National Team successfully defended the gold medal at the SEA Games which took place in Thailand. They climbed to the highest podium after defeating Malaysia in the final round.
