"Always remembered. Never forgotten. The Flowers of English football. The Flowers of Manchester."
The words already describe a tragic tragedy that befell the Manchester United player and is always remembered every year.
Manchester United held a tribute event to commemorate the Munich Air Tragedy on Friday, February 6, 2026, local time.
The Munich Air Tragedy is a fatal tragedy that claimed the lives of 23 people, including eight Manchester United players and three officials.
On that day in 1958, Manchester United were making the return journey after a European Cup (now Champions League) match against Red Star Belgrade. In a tragic incident, the team's plane crashed in Munich, shortly after refueling.
Referred to as the darkest day in the club's history, the Munich Air Tragedy is deeply rooted in Manchester United's identity and heritage.
"The Busby Babes showed what young people can do by playing with courage and believing in themselves."
"Our participant, Florence, proudly represented the Foundation at today's memorial in Munich, reading a beautiful speech entitled 'Munich's Eternal Legacy'," Manchester United wrote on Instagram.
Every year, thousands of fans attend memorial ceremonies at Old Trafford and Manchesterplatz, the site of the crash, to pay tribute to those who died and were injured.
"Forever in our hearts, we once again invite supporters to pay their respects on Friday, February 6, 2026, and at our men's, women's and academy teams' matches closest to the anniversary," the club said in a statement.
The ceremony at Old Trafford.
On Friday, February 6, 2026, local time, Manchester United held a memorial ceremony at Old Trafford from 14.45 to 15.15. Supporters were invited to gather under the Munich clock (East Stand) at 14.40 so that the ceremony could start at 14.45.
Reverend John Boyers led the ceremony, followed by a roll call of heroes, a reading of a poem from journalist and Andy Mitten supporter, Manchester United Foundation participant, representatives from the U-13 girls' and boys' academy teams, and club legend Sammy McIlroy. Senior club officials were also present to lay a wreath under the Munich clock.
After the ceremony, supporters are welcome to head to the International Suite (Stretford End) to meet friends and family, see memorabilia from 1958 and the Busby Babes (by permission of the Manchester United Museum) as well as share stories over tea, coffee and snacks.

The ceremony in Munich
In conjunction with the ceremony at Old Trafford, representatives from the Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation (MMMF) led the tribute at the Manchesterplatz Monument, Munich.
They will join Manchester United's Director of Fans, Rick McGagh, and former player Alex Stepney.
Supporters travelling, local residents, and Red Docs from Munich will also be in attendance, plus Manchester United Foundation participants and representatives of supporter clubs from around the world.
A wreath was placed at the site of the accident and a two-minute silence was observed.
The ceremony starts at 13.45 local time and will be broadcast live on MUTV.
Tribute at Manchester United vs Tottenham game
In addition to the memorial event, the plan is for the Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur match at Old Trafford to be tinged with respect.
Supporters present at the stadium are invited to pay tribute to the Munich Air Tragedy on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Ticket holders will attend a 30-minute memorial service on match day, which will take place at 10.30 local time under the Munich clock (East Stand).
The ceremony will feature a minute's silence, a list of the victims' names, poetry and readings with representatives from the academy team and the Manchester United Foundation.
Flags will be flown at half-mast, teams will lay wreaths, and the families of the Busby Babes will be in attendance at the game.
Fans are asked to be in their seats for the Manchester Flowers song which will be played 15 minutes before kickoff.
Thanks to The Red Army, a "We'll Never Die" banner will be displayed at the Lower Stretford End and a commemorative banner will be displayed at Tier 2 Stretford End for the moment the players come out.
Not only the main team match, the Munich Air Tragedy tribute was also held when Manchester United Women's team played against Liverpool Women at the Progress With Unity Stadium.
However, the tribute was already done first because it was the closest home match from the commemoration.
The Red Devils women's team honored the tragedy on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Progress With Unity Stadium before the match.
All players will wear black armbands, the team will lay a wreath, and the North Stand will be decorated with Munich flags.
