JAKARTA - Men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is ready to be sent down in the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) which takes place in China this week.

The men's and women's doubles tournaments between Asian countries are scheduled to run from February 3-8, 2026 at the Qingdao Conson Gymnasium, Qingdao. Ginting is one of the 10 male players sent to the event.

Ginting, who has just recovered from a waist injury, admitted that he was ready if he was sent down. He was also honored to be appointed as captain to lead the team.

"After the maximum recovery yesterday, now I am definitely ready, whether I am sent down or not, because it is all for the team's interests. So, what is important, yes, the mind is ready to play first," said Ginting in a statement.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist previously missed many matches last season. He then only appeared in the last semester, but got less than optimal results.

This year, the 29-year-old shuttler played the first and only tournament so far at the Indonesia Masters last week. In the event, he still couldn't do much so he was immediately eliminated in the second round.

Ginting said that the Indonesian men's team, which is populated by many young players, seems to be able to talk a lot after the sweet results of last week at the 2026 Thailand Masters.

"It certainly adds confidence for them to be able to play well here. So, it's a plus for us," said the badminton player who was born in Cimahi, West Java.

Besides Ginting, the Indonesian men's squad for this year's BATC is filled by Leo Rolly Carnando, Bagas Maulana, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, Raymond Indra, Nikolaus Joaquin, Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Rahmat Hidayat, Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo, and Richie Duta Richardo.

The men's doubles Leo/Bagas and Raymond/Nikolaus and Ubaidillah were finalists at the 2026 Thailand Masters. Leo/Bagas won the duel between fellow Indonesian representatives for the championship, while Ubaidillah defeated the host representative Panitchaphon Teeraratsakil.

Indonesia will start the fight at BATC by fighting Myanmar. On paper, Indonesia is very favored to win easily over the opponent.
