YOGYAKARTA - A prestigious swimming championship with a national scale was held again in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Yes, KRASSI 2026 (National Inter-School and University Championship of Indonesia) entered its 18th year when it was held at the Yogyakarta State University (UNY) Swimming Pool, Wates.
The swimming championship, which has become the agenda of the Indonesian Aquatic Federation, will be held from Wednesday, January 28, 2026 to Saturday, January 31, 2026. This year's KRASSI was attended by no less than 1030 participants from elementary, middle, high schools to universities.
Of that number, 621 male athletes and 409 female athletes were recorded. Meanwhile, the number of competitions reached 5368 so that the championship took place with a tight schedule and competition.
There are five general groups (KU) that are contested, namely KU I+: 16 years and above, born on December 31, 2010 and earlier. While KU II: 14-15 years, born January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012. For KU III: 12-13 years, born January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014. KU IV: 10-11 years, born January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016. And, KU V: 9 years and below, born January 1, 2017 and thereafter.
This shows the high enthusiasm of participants from almost all provinces in Indonesia to participate in the championship organized by the DIY Aquatic Pengda, in this case the Sleman Regency Aquatic Pengkab.
"This championship has also been supported by the Sleman Regency Diaspora for the past five years. For the past five years, the championship has run smoothly so that this cooperation also goes well," said R. Agung Purwantoro Saleh, Chairman of the KRASSI 2026 Committee in Sleman, Friday, January 30, 2026.
Furthermore, Agung, said that this year's championship was held faster because it was almost the same as the fasting month. Previously, KRASSI was more often held in February. However, this time it was held in January 2026.
"So this year it was held early because if it was still in February it would be in conjunction with fasting. Even though the schedule was advanced, participants were still enthusiastic about following it. With more than 1,000 participants from various regions, this shows that KRASSI has become a school and university agenda as well as swimming clubs," he said again.
"Moreover, this has become the agenda of the PB AI and the time records produced by athletes have become a national data base. If there is a record-breaking record, it will certainly be recorded and recognized," said Agung, who also serves as the Head of Perwasitan and Training of the AI DIY Pengda.
According to Agung, there are no less than 800 elementary schools to universities with 205 swimming clubs participating in KRASSI this year. Only clubs that participate in the championship remain under the auspices of the local school.
With the competition being tight, Agung hopes that potential young swimmers will emerge. They have the opportunity to test their abilities and can update the best times of the athletes.
"We hope that potential swimmers will emerge, whether they are still in elementary school, junior high school or are already in college. KRASSI is also a platform for the development of each region. Not only in DIY but other regions. Athletes have the opportunity to test their abilities and can update their best times," said Agung again.
For KRASSI 2026, the organizing committee (panpel) provides the best trophy for schools and the best swimmers in each age group.
"In addition to medals and charters or certificates, the best schools and swimmers get trophies," said Agung.
