JAKARTA - Padel for Philanthropy is the first padel tournament initiated for a social mission to support the improvement of children's literacy and the quality of teacher education in Indonesia.

The event, which brings together players, families, and communities in the spirit of sports as well as social concern, took place at Let's Go Padel, Sunter, North Jakarta, on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Ian Tristan Yoncer, as the organizer, said that all the money from this event will be used to fight illiteracy together with Credo Foundation.

"So, we donate money to the Credo Foundation, this money is used to help teachers teach children who are still lacking. All the money will go to the Credo Foundation. It's an organization that makes a curriculum to teach children," he said.

Padel for Philanthropy was initiated and organized by students from grades 10 to 11 from ACS Jakarta and Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) who are participating in the YAM (Youth Academy Mycelia) program.

This program is a social entrepreneurship program that adopts a curriculum from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and is guided by Dewi Susanti, Steffen Ummelmann, Reslian Pardede, and Firda Irianti Arifin.

Ian is one of eight students who are actively involved in this social program with Sean Patrick Lesmana, Austin Jackson Sim, Nayana Radhika, Clayton Matthew Surya, Jaden Atmadja, Jacelyn Atmadja, and Alexander Boenjamin.

They are the ones who directly carry out the entire series of activities, ranging from the planning process, fundraising for sponsors, to the implementation of their social entrepreneurship event.

"Now we have helped 46 thousand children and this is already in one hundred locations in Indonesia. So it's pretty big, but according to us there is still a lot we can do," said Ian.

Padel for Philanthropy presents two main series of activities. First, the Friendly Tournament which takes place throughout the day and is divided into three categories. Second, the MaBar (Main Together) session or hourly field rental which is open to the general public from morning to afternoon.

The collected funds will be used to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based teaching assistant designed to help teachers, especially in remote areas, in the literacy learning process so that the quality of literacy education can be improved and more Indonesian children can read.

Nayana Radhika said that she was happy with the enthusiasm of the participants in this event, especially the presence of celebrities such as Nana Mirdad.

"They really like this event because it has a lot of impact on our community. Then this event also aims to increase our education in Indonesia," he said.

This event is supported by Teh Pucuk and Impack Pratama as the main sponsors, as well as Wong Coco, Agena, First Crack Coffee, Oma Elly, Oriskin and other supporting partners who have contributed to the success of this activity.
