JAKARTA - The Indonesian Bouldering Federation (FPTI) hopes to send many athletes to the 2026 Asian Games which will take place in September in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.

The Chairman of FPTI, Yenny Wahid, said that Indonesian athletes still have a number of important agendas in this year's calendar that are used for qualifying to get tickets to the four-year event of countries in the Asian region.

"We don't know who gets the tickets to compete in the Asian Games. Hopefully many can break through and get tickets to the Asian Games," said Yenny in Jakarta.

Cliff climbing could become one of Indonesia's mainstay sports in Japan later. They have a great chance to contribute gold medals, continuing the success of the previous edition which took place in Hangzhou, China.

When in China, the sport of rock climbing managed to bring home five medals, consisting of one gold medal, two silver medals, and two bronze medals. The only gold at that time was won by Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in the women's speed event.

Yenny said that the rock climbing sport set a target of getting four medals when appearing in Japan later, especially the number in speed which has always been Indonesia's mainstay.

"So, for speed we still set a medal (gold) target, but for lead we set a target to be able to get to the final. We are long-term and so far lead has not been able to get to the speed," he said.

The sport of rock climbing recently achieved great success in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. They managed to come out as overall champions with four gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze.

The four gold medals were won by Ardana Cikal Damarwulan (men's lead), Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi (men's speed), Alma Ariella Tsany (women's lead), and Puja Lestari (women's speed).
