After Being Defeated by Juventus, Sassuolo Coach Slams Jay Idzes and Colleagues

JAKARTA - Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso highlighted his team's performance, including Jay Idzes, after being slaughtered by Juventus in the 19th week of the 2025/2026 Serie A.

Sassuolo can schedule to host Juventus at the Mapei Stadium, Reggio Emilia, on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, early morning WIB. In that match, Jay Idzes and his colleagues were forced to surrender 0-3.

The three winning goals of the visiting team came due to the suicide goal of defender Tarik Muharemovic (16'), Fabio Miretti (62'), and Jonathan David (63').

Jonathan David's goal was created because of a fatal blunder made by Jay Idzes. The Indonesian national team defender's attempt to give a backpass to the goalkeeper was able to be stolen by David and resulted in a goal.

Grosso assessed that the strategy prepared did not go perfectly when playing against an elite team that was inhabited by the best players and top coaches. Small mistakes on the field can be disastrous.

"Juventus have the quality to hold on and hurt us who should have avoided giving away chances."

"Against teams like this, you have to significantly raise the level of the game. You need a little luck and hope that the opponent is not in the best form. This game didn't go like that," Grosso said on the club's official website quoted Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

The coach, who is also a former Juventus defender, highlighted a number of fatal mistakes in the defense line.

"We have to develop in difficult situations. At this point we can grow and be able to prepare for the next match."

"We have to be better at defending in the game and I hope we can find a player to replace the absent players," Grosso said.

This result makes Juventus back to fourth place in the standings with 36 points. Meanwhile, Sassuolo had to drop one level to 11th place with 23 points.
