Liverpool Beat Tottenham Hotspur at Home with a Score of 2-1

Liverpool take home 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur

JAKARTA - Liverpool climbed to fifth place in the English League standings with 29 points after defeating Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Sunday morning WIB.

The Reds' victory marked Spurs' seventh defeat in the English League this season and kept them in 13th place with 22 points.

Liverpool, who are trying to get back on the winning track, opened the match with too cautious a game.

Their only real threat came in the 13th minute through a header from Virgil van Dijk, who was still able to be blocked by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs responded by threatening a few minutes later.

Rodrigo Bentancur tried to take a long volley, which was still not on target. The next opportunity for Spurs was obtained by Randal Kolo Mouani whose shot could be tamed by goalkeeper Alisson.

The Spurs hosts had to play with 10 players in the 33rd minute. A hard foul committed by Xavi Simons to fellow Dutchman, Van Dijk, saw the referee give him a red card after seeing the VAR review.

Even though the number of players was reduced, Spurs were able to play more freely. Several times they threatened through a number of counterattacks. However, no goals were created in the first half.

At the start of the second half, precisely in the 56th minute, Liverpool broke the deadlock. From a slick collaboration, the ball was then sent by Florian Wirtz to Alexander Isak who was just brought in at half-time. Isak then completed the attack while falling and dueling with Van de Ven, the ball managed to enter the Spurs goal, but Isak then groaned in pain.

The Swedish striker was then replaced by Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong then became the provider for Liverpool's second goal in the 66th minute. He sent a cross from the right side to be headed by Hugo Ekitike who slipped into the host's goal. 2-0 for Liverpool. Spurs' efforts to narrow the gap finally bore fruit in the 83rd minute.

From a corner kick, the chaos that occurred can be maximized by Spurs with a horizontal kick from Richarlison into the Liverpool goal.

Spurs had to end the match with nine players because in the 90th +2 minute, the referee sent off Cristian Romero after committing a foul against Ibrahim Konate. The match ended 2-1 for the visiting team.
