Jordi Amat Responds to News that John Herdman Will Coach the Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - Recently, it has emerged that PSSI has approved John Herdman as the new coach of the Indonesian National Team. Jordi Amat, who is a defender for Persija Jakarta and also a Garuda Squad player, also responded.

Previously, John Herdman's name was widely rumored to be the right figure to fill the position of the Indonesian National Team coach after the dismissal of Patrick Kluivert.

This began after PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member, Endri Erawan, leaked information about the new coach for the Indonesian National Team.

Endri, who was tasked with interviewing several coaching candidates in Europe, said that the coach being sought had experience in getting the team to the World Cup. From that statement, John Herdman's name then emerged.

The reason is quite strong because the English coach managed to bring the Canadian National Team (Timnas) to the 2022 World Cup. Herdman also created history by bringing Canada back to the World Cup after 36 years of not participating.

Regarding the news that John Herdman will coach the Indonesian National Team, Jordi Amat gave a calm response. He said that the information was still a rumor and the final decision was in the hands of PSSI.

"Right now it's just a rumor, as I said earlier in the interview, I hope it's the best decision for Indonesia, for the Indonesian National Team," said Jordi Amat in a statement on the sidelines of a training session with Persija.

Discussing the Indonesian National Team, Jordi Amat also emphasized that the team must rise again. The reason is, there are high targets in the future, including competing in the 2027 Asian Cup and qualifying for the 2030 World Cup.

In connection with this, Jordi Amat hopes that whoever is appointed as the coach of the Indonesian National Team can be the best choice.

"We (the Indonesian National Team) have to get back on track to prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup, let's hope for a good option for the team," said Jordi Amat.

He also believes that the Indonesian National Team has a bright future and hopes that the coach who is selected can restore the glory of the Garuda Squad.

"As I said before, we have a bright future for Indonesia," he said.
