JAKARTA - The East x West Combat Sports Festival is ready to present a duel between Indonesian fighters and carry the spirit of unity as well as concern for victims of the Aceh and Sumatra floods.
In addition to the humanitarian mission, this festival also made history by featuring women's kickboxing for the first time. All ticket sales will be donated entirely to help victims of disasters in Aceh-Sumatera.
East x West Combat Sports Festival promoter, Kevin Valentino Rouw, said that the concept of the event was inspired by the legendary East vs West rivalry that is widely known in hip-hop culture, but packaged in a spirit of unity.
English:
"We are not separating, but raising the potential of combat sports throughout Indonesia with the label of West and East to focus more," said Kevin in a statement received.
This festival is a collaboration between Melanesian Clan and The Faithers which aims to build a new identity for the Indonesian combat sports world, without questioning the origin of the region.
"East or West, in East x West, everyone stands equal with the same value, respect," said Kevin.
The main duel will feature the rivalry of Yunus Martin Wamaer against Bokir Sasmita. The East camp is strengthened by Ardi Lumihi, Rio Ludji, Axel Rahakratat, Brayen, Pazzcal Tanoy, Ahmad Sopiyan, Hendrikus, Stevi, and ZB.
On the other hand, the West team is filled with Riyanto, Barqy Priambodo, Kong Paul, Suryadi Tambunan, Dennis Abdurrachim, Fajar Arlions, Rendy Singgih, Endi Junior, and Amalina.
One of the matches that became the spotlight was the fight for the first KBI Pro women's kickboxing belt between ZB and Amalina.
"This duel marks the opening of more space for female athletes to compete at the highest level of combat sports," said Kevin.
The Faithers representative, Zidan Khadafi, emphasized his party's commitment to supporting the development of combat sports through publications and media.
"Exposure is very important to support the motivation of athletes to continue to develop," he said.
The East x West Combat Sports Festival emphasizes that combat sports are not just fights, but also a space for unity and solidarity, with one stage that combines sports, community, and social concerns.
