Hansi Flick Has No Problem With Yamal's Reaction After Being Replaced

JAKARTA - Barcelona manager Hansi Flick underestimated Lamine Yamal's reaction after being replaced towards the end of the match as his team won 2-1 over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, early morning WIB, at Camp Nou.

Yamal was replaced by Roony Bardghji in the 89th minute of the league phase match. He walked off the pitch with a serious expression and seemed to complain to himself. He also looked unhappy after returning to the bench.

"We replaced Lamine a few minutes before the game ended because he got a yellow card and it was too late."

"If he's a little upset, I fully understand and I like him. I've also been a player. It's completely acceptable, not a problem," Flick said.

Yamal was shown a yellow card in the 56th minute for a foul and will miss the next Champions League game.

His cross resulted in Jules Kunde's second goal in the 53rd minute which gave Barcelona a win after the visitors took the lead in the 21st minute. Kounde also scored in the 50th minute.

According to UEFA, 18-year-old Yamal has generated more goals--assist and goals--than any other player under 19 in Champions League history from group stage or league stage to final.

He has 14--seven goals and seven assists. The record is one more than Kylian Mbappe's previous record, which was 13---10 goals and three assists.

Meanwhile, Flick praised Kounde for contributing very important to Barcelona in the match against Frankfurt.

"It's great to have Jules score goals. His talent and mentality are very important," Flick said.

Kounde also said that it would be nice to be able to carry out so many attacks.

"My first job is to defend well, so I have to maintain a balance. There is a game where we play against five defenders."

"Today Frankfurt played very defensively, so you have to attack the space behind, that's what I'm trying to do. I made it with those two goals," Kounde said.

This is the fifth match in a row where Barcelona conceded first. They got up and won in the last four games.

Flick said he was very happy with how his troops got up, but added that sometimes it would be better if it started well and scored the first goal.

The victory brought Barcelona to 14th position, a two-point difference from eighth in the Champions League group stage.
