Wayne Rooney Advises Arne Slot To Reserve Mohamed Salah Against Inter In The Champions League

Mohamed Salah is now being pressured by the public for his comments when Liverpool slumped (Instagram/@liverpoolfc).

JAKARTA - Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney asked Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, not to include Mohamed Salah in the away match against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, early morning WIB.

It was related to the attitude shown by the Egyptian after not playing in the three lucky matches of the Reds.

"Arne Slot must show his authority and say, 'You don't join the team, what you say is unacceptable, go yourself to the Africa Cup of Nations and let everything calm down'."

"Arne Slot can control it. If I were Arne Slot, I wouldn't have put him near the team," Wayne Roone said.

Salah has scored 250 goals in 420 appearances since joining Liverpool from Rome in 2017. He signed a contract extension earlier this year after helping the Reds win the Premier League last season with 29 goals.

However, now at the age of 33, he has scored only four goals in 13 league appearances this season. Rooney also saw Salah had decreased and instead looked for scapegoats rather than self-introspection.

That attitude made Rooney finally comment so that Salah could be much better than completely dumped by Liverpool in the future.

"What's difficult, when you're a player and you're getting to an age where your performance is down, you're looking for the cause. The last person you see is yourself. I think this is what's going on."

"His performance hasn't been good yet. I'm sure in the next few years, when he recalls, he will regret what he has said."

"Only he can help him get out of this situation, by playing better! Instead of looking inside, he's looking for something to blame," Rooney said.

Rooney recalls a similar situation from his Manchester United career when he was not happy to be backed up. However, he responded differently, unlike Salah, who commented on exploding in public.

"I've had it with Jose Mourinho. I started the season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but I know he usually plays one player up front."

"In the first three or four games, he played two of us. I knew once I played badly, I wouldn't play and Zlatan would be the striker."

"I came and spoke honestly with Jose. I asked him to be loaned out in January because I wanted to play. He refused because he needed me for the Europa League, but I could leave in the summer."

"I stood up, took his hand, and didn't complain anymore. I sat on the bench and played several games."

"It was an honest conversation, two men shook hands, which I think is the right thing to do, instead of what Salah has done," Rooney said.
