Indonesian Athletes For The 2025 SEA Games Are Guarded By Securitying

JAKARTA The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has deployed a safeguarding officer to assist athletes who will appear in the 2025 Thailand SEA Games, which will officially open on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

This is the second time the safeguarding has been present to guard Indonesian athletes at the regional multi-branch sports event after previously similar security was carried out at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (AYG) Bahrain some time ago.

President of NOC Indonesia, Raja Sapta Oktohari, emphasized that athletes' achievements must always be in line with the protection of their rights and honors as human beings.

"We want to ensure that every Indonesian team athlete competes with a sense of security. Our main responsibility is to protect athletes, both physically, mentally, and with their dignity," Okto said in an official statement.

In recent years, the NOC Indonesia team's safeguarding has received various reports related to actions that fall into the category of physical, verbal, psychological, and digital harassment.

Therefore, the presence of safeguarding on the field can automatically handle it quickly, appropriately, and professionally every report that disturbs the comfort of athletes.

NOC Indonesia consistently also reminded athletes, coaches, and officials to dare to report if they find or experience acts of harassment or violence in any form.

The safeguarding officer of the Indonesian team at the Thailand 2025 SEA Games, Tabitha Charmaine Sumdeka, emphasized that education and courage to report are the keys to cultural change in the world of sports.

"Athletes should know that they are entitled to protection, free from harassment and any pressure," he said.

The safeguarding approach is also strengthened through ongoing medical support and education so that there is integration between psychological protection and overall athlete health.

The safeguarding team prepared various reporting channels, direct consultations in the athletes' village, as well as educational materials related to the category of harassment and complaint mechanisms. Each report will be processed according to applicable guidelines and in coordination with the authorities if necessary.

The 2025 SEA Games will take place from 9-20 December 2025. Indonesia sent 1,021 athletes with the target of bringing home 80 gold medals so they can finish in third place in the final standings for medals.
