JAKARTA The flying plate sports (sports) are ready to give their best when they are first competed in the 2025 SEA Games, which this year's edition takes place in Thailand.

Chairman of the Indonesian Flying Diring Players Association, Randi Tulus, said that officially appearing as a demonstration sport at the biennial multi-pronged sporting event was a historic momentum for the sport he leads.

"This is the first time and because this is the first time this year's SEA Games has become a sport for demonstrations," Randi said in an official statement received.

The Indonesian flying plate team will send a total of 18 athletes and four officials with the target of performing optimally on this international debut.

From the composition of the team, players who departed came from various regions ranging from Jakarta, Bali, Papua, as well as players based abroad.

"Of course we want to win the target, but the preparation must be very tough so that every day of the week we have three to four trainings in [field] softball at GBK," said Randi.

Flying plates are a team sport with a format of seven against seven. This sport is actually not new in Indonesia, but the community's development was limited because most of the players came from international schools.

Since 2018-2019, flying plates have started recruiting local players. Their strategy this year is to enter several private schools to look for athletes.

The 2025 SEA Games will be held on December 9-20 in Bangkok and Chonburi. A total of 50 sports and 574 match numbers are contested in the multi-pronged sports event of Southeast Asian countries.

The estimate is that more than 10 thousand athletes will come to the White Elephant Country. Indonesia itself sent 1,021 athletes there with the target of bringing home 80 gold medals.
